Preparing for class
Classes are adaptable to all levels. Participants may have little experience, or they have danced in the past. Some are recovering from health-related issues or have physical limitations. Everyone is individual but comes together to share the joy of movement.
What to wear
Class participants should wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict them from movement. Many women tend to wear T-shirts and leggings, while men tend to wear general active apparel. Please see below for specific guidance:
Ballet: Ballet shoes are recommended. Socks are recommended if you do not have shoes.
Modern: Modern dance is usually done barefoot, but socks and ballet or jazz shoes are acceptable.
Tap: Tap shoes are recommended.
Fitness: Fitness or dancewear recommended, gym shoes.
Pilates Mat: Ballet slippers or socks are recommended. Please bring a yoga mat.
Dance for Joy: Comfortable clothing, socks, or ballet shoes.
Footwear: You may wear socks, ballet shoes, or jazz shoes. If the floor is too slippery for socks, practicing barefoot is a safe alternative.
Class progression
Every class begins with a brief warmup. The curriculum is cumulative; each week builds on the last as you master new positions, steps, and combinations.
